Conference Schedule & Workshop Topics

The 2016 MCC conference is a little different from what it has been in previous years.  The planning committee is determined to develop the Michigan Christian Convention so that it is a powerful tool for helping the Christian community have resources for ministry that are relevant to today's culture, practical and insightful, as well as helpful for everyone.  Our American media and society would have us believe that Jesus doesn't really make a difference and that the church doesn't matter.  With that in mind, this year's conference discusses topics that will help Christian disciples and congregations be relevant where you are, with inspiration in the Friday evening music events.

Friday Daytime | 9:00-4:30pm
Attenders choose one of two workshops to attend during the day (lunch included):

  • Ben Merold, experienced, effective, and popular speaker, will address the topic of church leadership:  "Being Relevant as a Leader in the Church."
  • Dr. Richard Knopp, professor at Lincoln Christian Seminary, will address the topic of speaking with confidence when there is room for doubt:  "Being Relevant When Talking with the Skeptical."

Friday Evening | 7:00-8:30pm
Attenders choose one of two venues for encouragement and inspiration:

  • Andrew Peterson in concert at the Doty Center.
  • Worship and music in the Woodard Administration building with Art Bush and Steve Foster.  Keynote speaker, Michigan Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, will address the topic of how Christ followers can make a difference in their community and government:  "Being Relevant in Culture as Citizens and Influencers."

Children's program (nursery-5th grade) in the Woodard Administration building.

Saturday Morning | 9:00-12:30pm
Conference goers choose one of two workshops to attend:

  • Wissam Al-Aethawi, ministering with Arabs and Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan, will address the topic of understanding Islam and ministering to Muslim people:  "Being Relevant in Relating to Muslims."
  • Joshua Straub, family psychologist and national speaker, will address the topic of how to create safe families and build healthy relationships in an age of technology:  "Being Relevant as a Balanced Family."

Children's program (nursery-5th grade) in the Woodard Administration building.

Youth program (Middle School - High School) in the Woodard Administration building with Pat Brennan (Willow Creek Community Church, Huntley, IL) speaking; and Matt Moore (THRIVE Church worship leader and musician) will be leading the praise and worship.

Lunch | 12:15-1:30pm

  • Lunch will again be available on-site, beginning at 12:15.  Conference attenders are encouraged to stay on-site for lunch to visit with friends in a relaxed setting without having to go off campus and fight traffic.

Worship Celebration and Keynote Address by Ben Merold | 1:45-3:00pm

  • Everybody joins together in the Doty Center for praise, worship, and a message by Ben addressing the theme "Church Relevant."
